Ai Grammy è andato in scena il trionfo di Billie Eilish e Lizzo che ha ha fatto il pieno conquistato i quattro premi principali. Miglior nuova artista, album dell’anno, canzone dell’anno e registrazione dell’anno.
A questi si sono aggiunti altri tre premi in categorie minori. A Lizzo la statuetta per “Miglior pop solo performance”.
Billie Eilish è riuscita a fare la storia superando anche Taylor Swift come più giovane vincitrice nella storia dei Grammy.
La Eilish vinto con l’album “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?“, con la canzone “Bad Guy” e come artista. Lizzo si è dovuta accontentare di un premio importante per “Truth Hurts” e di due minori. (con “Jarome” per Best traditional R&B performance e con “Cuz I Love You” per Best urban contemporary album).
Un Grammy anche l’ex First Lady Michelle Obama, la sua autobiografia “Becoming” (La mia storia) è stata premiata come ‘Best spoken word album’ nella versione in audiobook. Durante la cerimonia John Legend, Meek Mill, DJ Khaled hanno reso omaggio a Nipsey Hussle, morto il 31 marzo del 2019 dopo essere stato colpito da alcuni colpi d’arma da fuoco fuori dal suo negozio a Los Angeles. La sua “Racks in the Middle” è stata premiata come miglior performance rap.
E un tributo è andato anche a Prince con Usher e Sheila E. che hanno eseguito un medley di alcune sue canzoni. A salire sul palcoscenico dello Staples Canter anche Demi Lovato che in lacrime ha cantato il singolo “Anyone”, scritto solo quattro giorni prima dell’overdose che nel luglio del 2018 quasi le costò la vita.
